I was lucky enough to be born into a family that was not committed to any belief. I did not have any particular religious views IMPRINTED on me at the most impressionable age. People are not imbued with such free will as one might suppose.

The apostle Paul in his letter to the Hebrew Christians said, faith is “the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld.” (Hebrews 11:1)

Having such faith, you will be absolutely sure that all your hopes and expectations, including God’s promise of a resurrection, will be realized.

You will be convinced that such hopes are based on sure guarantees, not on wishful thinking. You will know that Jehovah has never failed to keep his promises. (Joshua 21:45; 23:14; Isaiah 55:10, 11; Hebrews 6:18)

God’s promised new world will be as real to you as if it were already here. (2 Peter 3:13) And you will see clearly with eyes of faith that Jehovah God, Jesus Christ, and God’s Kingdom are all realities, not delusions.

Great question.

The ONLY valid motivation in my mind would be a vast improvement in my quality of life… since “by their fruits, ye shall know them.”

So in one sense, I share the belief of many atheists, that there needs to be evidence before I accept something. (More context on my bio. )

Faith is what makes me believe the teachings of the church. But faith is not just a matter of the will, that you decide to believe or not. It’s like when you love a person, you cannot justify your attraction to him or her by cold reasoning or logic, faith is like that, a mystery.

The solid and overwhelming evidence that Jesus rose from the dead on the third day as he said he would – proving that he is God in human flesh.

What has motivated me to be a bible student and believe in the bible is the very thing others mostly neglect, I was age 19 when my child was born and that is a fact that will not change. Adam was age 130 when Seth was born, then he was age 105 when his son was born and son number 9 was 182 years old when son number 10 was born year 1056, this will never change, son number 10 was age 600 in the life sustaining earth [ where it came to be that there was no life to sustain ], then the flood in the year 1656 for Noah, ended earthwide violence and it also ended the life sustaining earth and life for mankind became shorter and shorter so that life for all is short and full of troubles and the only truth known is that death is coming at anytime for many reasons [ due to the imperfections called sin that all are born with ], and can go to old age at death around age 70 or so.
For this reason that is no fault of our own, we have a savior in Christ Jesus that will bring back the life and the life sustaining heavens and earth as new as it was before Eden for all of the offsprings of Adam that want it. 2Pet.3:13; Eph.2:7; 3:21; the world with Jesus is without end and all is made new Rev.21:1-5;

At first you just feel you are searching for something but you are not sure what.
Than you go through different practices, books, and teachers.
And at the end you find something that just feels right.
It is not possible to put it in words, although I am sure a lot of us could find different explanation for it (it is free, I like the teachers, it makes me feel good, etc).
Of course if you have found your right path, sooner or later you will see the benefit of that particular path in your life, in your senses, and by then you KNOW you made the right decision.
At least that is how it happened to me, when I “stumbled upon” my path 2-3 years ago.
So in short search, and listen to yourself, and you will feel, which one is right!
Here is a link to the method that felt right to me, and changed my life since:

My motivation is my inner drive and my guides to guide me or help along the way, there is a job to do in this life time and to seek out all knowledge along the way. Also helping others as well, I have no specific religion, I seeked religion only when I was in my twenties, to then I was baptised, but yet do not go to church or read the bible, yet my inner self knows that there is more to do than to sit in a chair and listen to those who push religion onto others. As I am on here know helping you and others, my paintings will soon be shown around the world and to that my journey will end…..take care

Source : Yahoo AnswersQuestion : How did psychics get the name mediums?

How did psychics get the name mediums? Just want to know where the name originated or how it came to be called medium. Thanks!

Answer by Clay
It was used in the early 20th century when Spiritualism was big. It originates in the idea of being the mediator between the earthly and spiritual worlds.

Answer by Liam
I think it’s because a phychic is the way a dead spirit communicates with the living, like a middle man, therefore a medium for them to communicate to us with.

The same way that sound waves need air to travel across the room for us to hear the sound:
The sound source (radio) vibrates and the vibrations shake the air particles in time with the music, and like a mexican wave the sound vibrations travel across the room to a person whos ears pick up the vibrations, letting us hear the music from the radio – In this case the AIR is the meduim.

That’s why when your in space nobody hears you screaming “Oh, Shite we’re all gonna die!”, because there’s no air in space.

Ectoplasm.
Ectoplasm (from the Greek ektos, “outside”, + plasma, “something formed or molded”) is a term coined by Charles Richet to denote a substance or spiritual energy “exteriorized” by physical mediums.Ectoplasm is said to be associated with the formation of ghosts, and hypothesized to be an enabling factor in psychokinesis.
