Source : Yahoo AnswersQuestion : Where can you read books for free online?

I tried just googling, but i’m not interested in reference or children books, but more like graphic novels and other stuff people actually read. I’m not wanting to download or print, just read online. I know of wowio.com, and it’s good but doesn’t have what i want, but something like that would be great!
of course it’s possible, www.wowio.com is one site but they don’t have the book i want to read. besides why not, there are tons of sites to watch movies for free. and you can get books for free, not even a rental charge but i’m in a feud with my local library, we are no longer friends.
no no no, not fanfics, you can google fanfic for barney and come up with stuff.
No i’m looking for graphic novels by Alan Moore, I would buy them but no money in the bank at the moment. Novels like League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Watchmen, V for Vendetta, and, the one i’m looking to read, From Hell
First off, why become a writer if you dont enjoy it. There are plenty of other jobs, it’s not like anyone is pegged for a career at birth. S
Second. if i can’t read the books for free, not a big deal, but there are free online library that are not stealing and i’m just asking if anyone knows the websites for them. I guess some might consider lending a friend a book stealing too since both people didn’t pay for it.

I don’t know about actual books, but…

Some people write stories based on the characters, places, or worlds from published books or TV shows or movies. Some of these ‘fanfictions’ can be lengthy and very good, it’s just a matter of finding the right ones. If you are looking for reading material online, try “www.fanfiction.net” and look up any movies, books, or TV series that you like. You might find some good stuff.

If that’s not what you are looking for, I’m sorry, I can’t help you.

🙂

J

EDIT: Just a note: These fanfics are free to read. Anyone publishing fanfiction can not (as in, it’s illegal) earn any money from them, or claim the original characters ect. as their own, because they belong to the authors/producers. So, they don’t charge you money to read them, people just put them on the net for fun and for comments.

There are some good stories on Booksie.com.
Though you could read my story and tell me what you think?
I would really appreciate it 🙂

Hi there,

So, basically, you want to steal books? Nice. Books whose copyrights have expired can be found at Project Gutenberg (www.gutenberg.org), books with active copyright need to be paid for. Writers write for a LIVING, you know, not because it’s so much fun.

Cheers

If a book is on a author’s or publisher’s website, that is legal.

Public libraries are buying ebook rights but you have to put in your library card number so only those people can read it.

There is no such thing as a free online library. Those are pirated copies.

If the book is published before 1923, then it is no longer copyrighted protection.

“In a civil suit, an infringer may be liable for a copyright owner’s actual damages plus any profits made from the infringement. Alternatively, the copyright owner may avoid proving actual damage by electing a statutory damage recovery of up to $ 30,000 or, where the court determines that the infringement occurred willfully, up to $ 150,000. The actual amount will be based upon what the court in its discretion considers just. (17 U.S.C. 504)

Violation of copyright law is also considered a federal crime when done willfully with an intent to profit. Criminal penalties include up to ten years imprisonment depending on the nature of the violation. (No Electronic Theft Act, 18 U.S.C. 2319)”

There are a number of free-to-read books on Bookstars.info, and they are always putting up new ones.

Nicholas Sparks is not giving away his books. He writes to earn a living. Respect that.

If the author wants you to read his book for free, LEGALLY, he will post the book on his website or his publishers website.

Books that someone scanned and put on a file sharing site are stealing from the author. The person that uploaded can earn jail time and fines of $ 150,000.

Think about it. How would you like to spend more than a year working on writing a book only to have people read it for free.

He had me visit a priest thinking I was possessed. I’ve been actively using my gifts for the past 20 years. “Tools” that I may use during a reading are tarot or pendulum to assist with helping to find answers.
